Becoming a great hockey player requires a considerable amount of:

		strength

		speed

		coordination

		flexibility

When injuries occur they not only prevent optimal performance, but they often hinder the athlete’s ability to compete and train altogether. Certain injuries can be slow to respond to traditional types of treatment and/or may be a frequent occurrence, often resulting in months of frustration. You may be wondering :

“what can I do to prevent this from happening?”

Or you may be at the point of injury already and wondering “how do I fix this problem?”

Traditional approaches include medication, rest, ice, ultrasound, stretching, exercise and sometimes even surgery. In many cases these treatments require a significant amount of time to see big improvements. This poses a problem as athletes often need to get back to training and competition as soon as possible.

The main reason these treatments can be ineffective is that they do not address the underlying scar tissue adhesions that develop within the muscles and surrounding tissues. This can result in decreased range of motion and strength, pain, reduced coordination, numbness and tingling; decreasing optimal performance.

Exercise and stretches are often required for full recovery, if these adhesions are not addressed the recovery period is much longer and less effective.

ART stands for Active Release Techniques and is a highly successful hands-on treatment to address these adhesions. It involves shortening and lengthening of the muscles with a specific pressure. It is widely used to treat players in the NHL to lead to speedy recoveries.

If you don’t suffer from an injury then you should definitely consider prevention. In addition to treating muscles of the body, joint function is also imperative. Misalignment or distortion of the spine, hips and related tissues can irritate, stretch, impinge and interfere with proper function of the nervous system, which controls the function of the body; also affecting optimal performance. To alleviate this “misalignment” a precise, corrective procedure called a spinal adjustment can be performed to restore a state of balance.

To have an assessment done on a specific injury, or just to get a check-up on your overall postural and functional health call 519 969 1119 and book an appointment with Dr. Rena Citron, chiropractor
Mention that you are a Powertech member and receive a free tube of Biofreeze.

Dr. Citron is located at 2475 McDougall (within the Jackson Park Health Centre) in Windsor. If you have any questions she can also be contacted at renacitron@hotmail.com.

OVERSPEED

What is Overspeed?

Overspeed is when an athlete moves his or her body or parts at higher than normal competitive speeds. An Overspeed workout requires players to skate at speeds 8-13 percent faster than they are capable of. Overspeed is an on ice training method which is designed to keep athletes feet in constant motion at a 100% work load on their legs, using crossovers, pivots, and half pivots. This consists of both forward and backward skating.

Why Overspeed?

Overspeed forces dedicated athletes to be pushed outside their comfort level by repetitive crossovers to attain maximum speed and co-ordination resulting in peak performance!
Overspeed is not for everyone. It is very challenging as your legs take a heavy work load in a very short amount of time. This type of training is for dedicated hockey players only! Videos and overspeed training camps are soon to follow!!!

“Ready to accept the challenge?”

Powertech Members,

Mark and I are excited and proud to spread the news that our owner Andy Paquette will be travelling to Russia for two weeks to run The Igor Larionov Road To Success Development Camp in Moscow Russia. This Camp is an invitational camp that will include the Top Russian players born in the 97-95 age groups as well as invited junior and proffessional players.

Here is a couple of quotes from Andy:

"I had a goal that one day I would teach in Russia, I just didn't think someone like Igor Larionov would be the one who would ask me".

"Igor asked me through an NHL Hockey Agent (Ian Pulver) if he could have his son skate with my Belle Tire 97 team, he also brought and continues to bring other Russian players out to train with us, after the second skate, he asked me if I would come to Russia with him and run his development camp. He gave my training a lot of compliments and it is an honour to have someone that accomplished in the world of hockey pay such a huge compliment".

"I have always tried to teach the game and be the best I can be for my students and to treat people right. I have tried to build my hockey business with integrity, energy and passion. I believe in my heart of hearts that if you do something properly and with integrity for a long period of time, one day time will prove you right. It has been years of hard work and I don't get too excited about too many things, but I am truly excited about this".

"Next year I am planning on bringing Mark with me to bring his world class skating to Moscow. Mark is a hidden gem".

Keep visiting www.powertechhockey.ca to see images and video of Andy in Moscow. Camp starts June 19th

Hope all is well,

Danny anger and Mark Cadotte
